As we “fall back” this weekend and gain an extra hour, consider using it for something truly valuable: reflection.

The best leaders use reflection to strengthen learning agility — the ability to learn from experience and apply those insights to new situations. Reflection isn’t just about looking back; it’s about preparing to move forward.

In fact, regular reflection can improve:

Information retention

Team cohesion and engagement

Interpersonal effectiveness

Stress management

Why does this matter? Because reflection helps leaders navigate VUCA environments — those that are volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous — which definitely describes today’s workplace.

Yet reflection often gets pushed aside. It can feel indulgent when there are fires to put out and deadlines to meet. But this weekend, you’re gifted an extra hour. Use it wisely.

Ask yourself:

  • How are things really going?
  • What did I learn from my last mistake?
  • What support does my team need right now?
  • What’s getting in the way of better performance?
  • What should I prepare for over the next 3–6 months? 6 – 12 months?

When you gain that extra hour, how will you use it?
